Man Utd CONFIRM Jesse Lingard free transfer exit and thank star ‘for all of the memories’ after his brother blasted club

MANCHESTER UNITED have confirmed that Jesse Lingard will leave the club this summer.

The attacking midfielder, 29, is out of contract at the end of June.

And Lingard will depart Old Trafford on a free transfer, having joined his boyhood team aged 7 in 2000.

But the ace’s time at United ended on a sour note after his brother branded the club “classless” for not giving Lingard a send-off in front of fans on the field.

The FA Cup and Europa League winner was left on the bench against Brentford as Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Phil Jones were greeted for the last time at the Theatre of Dreams.

But in a lengthy statement detailing his playing career and achievements, United thanked Lingard for all the “memories” while wishing him luck at his next club.

It read: “Manchester United can confirm that Jesse Lingard will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

“We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Jesse for all of the memories he’s helped create during his two decades here and wish him the best of luck in his future career.”

United’s farewell came just days after Lingard posted his own defiant message on social media.

Accompanying pictures of him in the gym, the message read: “Overly focused, it’s far from the time to rest now.”

Lingard played 232 times for United, scoring 35 goals in the process.

A winner of the FA Youth Cup in 2011, he landed the real thing in 2016 before taking the Europa League a year later.

Lingard, capped 32 times by England, also enjoyed loan spells at Leicester, Birmingham, Brighton and Derby.

But his most prolific spell came during a six-month stint at West Ham last year.

Lingard netted nine goals in just 16 league games, scooping April’s Player of the Month.

However, he was denied the chance to make his loan permanent last summer after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promised more minutes at United.

Yet Lingard started just twice in the league this term after also failing to win over Ralf Rangnick.

And with Erik ten Hag set to overhaul United’s playing squad, Lingard is now on the hunt for a new home.

West Ham have reportedly enquired about their former loanee, although SunSport understands David Moyes is unlikely to push ahead with any plans to sign him.

Newcastle also remain linked after failing to sign Lingard in January.

But he could instead join the likes of Tammy Abraham, Chris Smalling and Fikayo Tomori in Italy.

That’s because Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma are all said to be interested in a freebie.

However, Lingard is believed to favour staying in England – despite not being totally opposed to a Serie A experiment.
