A man is accused of whipping out a wizard wand-looking object to threaten an employee at a hotel from which he was banned.

Skylar Eros Dupree Thomas, 29, allegedly walked into a Hyatt Place hotel on International Drive in Bloomington, Minnesota, and reached into a container of used room keys.

A hotel worker, who recognized Thomas from previous run-ins, asked him multiple times to leave. But Thomas began hurling racial slurs at the employee, according to a criminal complaint obtained by KSTP.

The worker followed Thomas outside of the hotel, at which point Thomas allegedly brandished a wand. The employee apparently thought the weapon was a long knife and took out a gun and pointed it at Thomas, the complaint states. The worker had a conceal-and-carry permit.

Thomas reportedly kicked a trash can and began walking away, then turned and pointed his wand at the worker again. Thomas eventually fled.

Bloomington police received a call for the incident reporting a person with a weapon shortly after 12am on Friday.

‘From previous calls, (the officer) knew that the defendant was referencing a stick that had been fashioned into what looked like a wizard’s wand,’ the complaint states.

A witness confirmed the worker’s story to authorities. Thomas’ wand was roughly 16 inches long and had a metal point at the tip that looked like a knife, investigators said.

Last November, Thomas was issued a trespass notice that bars him from going into the hotel until the end of November.

Thomas was charged with fifth-degree assault and trespassing, both which are misdemeanors. If convicted, Thomas could be hit with a fine of up to $2,000, and or face up to 180 days in prison.

He was arraigned on Monday and has been granted a conditional release. Thomas’ pretrial hearing has been scheduled for May 19.
