A BODY has been found near university halls after a student vanished on a night out.

Joseph Derbisz, 21, from Rugby, Warwickshire, became separated from his friends in the early hours of Sunday morning in Birmingham.

The University of Birmingham student had been at nightclub Fab N Fresh at the Guild of Students around 3.30am.

Friends said they were “extremely worried” and it was out of character for him not to return home.

Formal identification is yet to be carried out however cops have braced Joseph’s family and friends, Birmingham Mail reported.

Friends, students and family launched a campaign on social media in attempt to raise awareness about his disappearance.

West Midlands Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman said: “Officers searching for missing Joseph Derbisz have sadly found the body of a man off Edgbaston Park Road, Birmingham, today.

“The 21-year-old was last seen in the early hours of yesterday.

“Although formal identification has yet to take place, Joseph’s family have been informed.

“We are not treating the death as suspicious and our sympathies remain with his family.”

He had been studying mechanical engineering and was tutoring math part time, according to a social media profile.

One of Joseph’s housemates Rachel Thorp posted to Facebook thanking others for their support.

She wrote: “We are deeply sorry to inform you that Joe has tragically passed away.

“We’re overwhelmed with the support and ask for privacy at this time.”

A spokesperson for the University of Birmingham said: “We are absolutely devastated to learn about the death of Joe.

“Our thoughts are with Joe’s family and friends at this very difficult time. We are doing everything we can to support Joe’s friends and family, as well as the wider student and staff community.

“We continue to work with the police as they conduct their enquiries and are unable to comment further at this stage.”
