Jeff Bridges thought he wouldn’t work again after cancer and Covid battle

Jeff Bridges has opened up on his cancer and Covid battle, revealing he didn’t think he would work again following the ordeal.

The actor, 72, was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2020 while working on FX drama series The Old Man.

He then contracted Covid-19 while he was receiving cancer treatment.

The Oscar-winner opened up during an episode of The One Show to hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas about his inspirational health battle.

‘I didn’t I was going to go back to work. I thought “Oh, come on, you can’t do that”,’ the Big Lebowski actor said.

‘So, you never know what life has in store for you.’

Jeff likened returning to working on The Old Man following his health struggles to ‘a bizarre dream.’

He also spoke about being able to walk his daughter, Hayley, down the aisle and dance with her at her wedding in 2021, to which the hosts and Graham Norton, who shared the famous BBC couch with Jeff, said must have had everyone present in tears.

In 2021, the award-winning Hollywood heavyweight revealed his cancer was in remission.

In a handwritten update on his website, Jeff wrote: ‘My cancer is in remission. The 9” x 12” mass has shrunk down to the size of a marble.’

He added that Covid had ‘kicked my ass pretty good’, but said: ‘I’m double vaccinated and feeling much better now. I heard that the vaccine can help folks with long haulers. Maybe that’s the cause of my quick improvement.’

‘I’ve been working out with a great therapist, Zack Wermers. We’ve been concentrating on getting me off the oxygen assistance, which until recently I’ve been needing to walk around.

‘The sound it makes me reminds me of Darth Vader.

‘I had a goal – walking my daughter Hayley down the aisle. She was getting married to a wonderful guy, Justin Shane.

‘Thanks to Zach and my terrific medical team, I was able to not only walk Hay down the aisle, but do the father/bride dance with her without oxygen.’

Following his recovery, Jeff returned to filming The Old Man, which is set to be released in the UK on Disney Plus on September 28.

The official synopsis for the show reads: ‘The Old Man centers on Dan Chase, who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since.

‘When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past’
