The lead singer of the Ukrainian band Antytila has thanked Ed Sheeran after the chart-topper’s response to his viral concert appeal.
Speaking to the group in a video, Ed said: ‘I just want to say to all Ukrainians, I love you, I stand with you and I’m so proud to be playing this fundraising event next week.’
He added: ‘I can’t wait to check your music out too, guys. Sending lots of love.’
Speaking about Ed’s response, Taras Topolia, the lead singer of the three-man rock group, joined Capital Breakfast this morning, hosted by Roman Kemp, Sonny Jay and Sian Welby, from the front line of the conflict, in his fatigues.
He said: ‘It’s brilliant for us that Ed got back to us.’

While it’s not clear if the band will be performing, he added: ‘We want to thank him and all of the people of the United Kingdom for supporting us.’
Taras later went on to say he will always play music, adding: ‘We are musicians first of all and we will definitely prevail and we will play concerts in the stadium of our undefeated country.’
On Wednesday, the band reached out to Ed in order to see if they could perform at the Concert for Ukraine that will take place in Birmingham on March 29.
In the original video, they said: ‘Hello Ed Sheeran, greetings from Kyiv!
‘We are musicians of the Ukrainian band Antytila – one of the most popular Ukrainian bands with a lot of fans in Ukraine and all over the world.
‘In peacetime, our concerts gathered stadiums. The war has changed our lives and now we are fighting with weapons against the Russian occupiers.’
In the video, the band then went on to say that their band will play in Kyiv, and that they’d love to join Ed’s show in Birmingham.
They added: ‘Through music, we want to show the world that Ukraine is strong and unconquered.
‘We will fight and sing for victory in front of the whole world that supports us.
‘So on March 29, we are ready.’
Announced last week, the two-hour benefit show will air on ITV in aid of the Disasters Emergency Committee, the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
Acts confirmed include the aforementioned Shape Of You singer, alongside Camila Cabello, Emeli Sande, Gregory Porter and Snow Patrol.
